A request for proposals to build a fiber broadband service in Joplin has been issued and is hitting the market at a good time according to an adviser.
He said the consultants worked with the city departments to figure out how to connect residents to the internet at the lowest price.
Interviews with people who submitted the proposals are to be done in February or March.
The priority in the beginning of the project was to get internet access for children.
As a new trash and recycling contract is more than three years away, a shift from voluntary curbside recycling will be a final recommendation.

The council was to decide if a special-use permit would be issued for continued use of the property as a concert house
