One billion Alaskan snow crabs mysteriously disappear?
In Alaska, officials have banned Bering Sea fishing because of the low population of Crabs.
Due to the massive reduction in the crab population, this step was taken by the state's crab industry.
State officials told the news that nearly a billion crabs have gone missing in the past two years.
This is a mysterious drop in the number of crabs.
It may also be related to the climate crisis.
Gabriel Prout (The Fisherman) told CBS "Did they completely cross the border? Did they break out of the continental shelf over the Bering Sea?"
Crabs are native to the North Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. They are eaten around the world.
The agency said, "the closure of the crab fishery has a substantial impact on harvesters, industry and communities".
