Alvarez and Astros Shock Mariners in Ninth With Walk-Off Win
Houston Astros start the postseason 2022 campaign with a bang.
Joe came back from a four-run deficit to beat the Seattle Mariners 8-7 with a three-run walk-off home run by Yordan Alvarez.
Seattle called in last year's American League winner, Robbie Ray, and the Astros were trailing by the first inning.
Which gave the team what they hoped would be their third straight postseason after win 20 seasons.
Alvarez's other plans were to blast a 438-foot ball off Ray, who scored three, converting a two-run deficit into a one-run victory.
Justin Verlander got the Astros off to a great start.
A walk within the first four batters and a pair of singles gave the Mariners a 1-0 lead.
Verlander continued to struggle in the second innings.
