Visited daily by millions, it is certainly number one most visited site on earth. Wikipedia receives more than 13.89 million visits each day, making it one of the most visited websites on the Internet. The English-language version of the site — en.wikipedia.org — is the third-most-popular site worldwide, and second-most popular just in the U.S. market. Another social media site that made it to the top 10, Pinterest is one of the most popular websites both in the United States and globally.

Only four of the worlds most visited websites are located in Russia and Japan, with the rest of the world accounting for a total of 10 of the top sites.

The comprehensive list of top websites globally mentioned above is according to the reports published by Alexa Internet, under their report entitled Global Top Websites. The three highest-ranked websites combined receive an astounding 152 billion visits per month, more than the combined visits of the 47 websites below. Together, a handful of the giants are getting 152 billion visits a month, more than the next 47 websites combined. If the top three positions are unchanged, always held by Google, Youtube at 35, and Facebook, at number four, we find Amazon, a company known for its eCommerce, shopping, and more, which receives over 800,000 visits per month.

The websites 1.2 billion visits are an 8 percent increase from last April, when the two sites combined received 1.1 billion visits. Yandex.ru received 3.5 billion visits per month, which placed it at the top of the top 20 most visited websites globally. Just like Google, it too serves its public with information, navigation services, mobile apps, etc. Yandex is the number five most popular search engine worldwide. The user-centric features made Facebook this popular among crowds from all age groups, and turned out to be the third-most visited site.

Of course, that Facebook owns both sites is troubling, because that means that two of the top 10 websites in the world are controlled by a single entity. Wikipedia (#5), the nonprofit site founded by Larry Sanger and Jimmy Wales in 2001, has experienced more than 30% growth. Wikipedia was able to reach an average of about 4.8 billion visits globally each month.

The Top Global Websites

Servicing over two trillion search queries annually through its network, Alphabet-owned Google ranks highest with its flagship domain, Google.com. Google derives approximately 80% of its earnings from ad revenues.

Facebook, the second most popular social networking platform, has 2.7 billion users. Users spend 34 minutes per day on average on the site, and 36% of users say it’s also where they get their news, which is higher than any other social network.

Baidu (#7), China’s leading search engine, received 5.6 billion visitors in November. Baidu is also expanding its business, entering the electric vehicle (EV) market in collaboration with China-based automaker Geely.

As video conferencing became increasingly popular during the pandemic, Zoom (#15) became one of the most visited websites, with 2.7 billion visitors per month. Similarly, TikTok (#43) became a new addition.

Microsoft (#28), for example, owns seven of the world’s top sites, including LinkedIn (#25) and Live.com (#16). Amazon (#13) owns five, including Twitch.tv (#32), as well as popular Amazon-focused domains in Japan, the United Kingdom, and Germany.

China has five top websites: Baidu (number seven), QQ (number 34), Bilibili (number 42), TikTok (number 43), and AliExpress (number 47). With over 981 million monthly visitors, Tencent-owned QQ.com is China’s most popular news site. QQ, like WeChat, offers a popular messaging platform.

Only four of the world’s most visited websites are based in both Russia and Japan, with the rest of the world accounting for ten top sites in total.
